When mowing some knarly hay with milkweed the sickle bar kept bunching up. Rather than get off and free it up by hand I would back up , go forward, and repeat til clean. I was mowing with the trottle way up so when I would shift from forward to reverse I'd get a grind from the transmission. To lessen the grind I'd cut back on the trottle. Well, one time when I shifted I got a major grinding from the area below the shifter. The PTO was engaged. I quickly threw in the clutch, but the grinding would reoccur if I let out the clutch. I put the clutch back in and shifted to "neutral" To my surprise when I let out the clutch the tractor started moving in neutral. I limped on back to the garage and parked it. I have never worked on the transmission gears or a PTO. Where do I begin to find out what is wrong? Sounds like I sheared something off. I have a IH manual for A,B,BN etc. What do I do first ? drain the transmission box? I would appreciate any advise as to what I will find if I take off the 6/8 bolts around the shifter to get to the transmission gears, Or do I just deal with the PTO first. I need your help. Thanks in advance
