I looked at the I-4 yesterday and it is more of a project than I would like to take on right now; especially since I have a cub and an SC pending restoration and I'm running out of room. The engine runs well, all of the gears work, and the tractor drives just fine. There is a little gear noise. The rear wheels are not original and the operator's platform has a big crack in it. All of the sheet metal seems to be there and is relatively straight. As far as I could tell, the date code on the frame ended in L, which I think makes it a 1942. There is a stamping on the ID plate that has an anchor and the initials USN. There is also a plate that says "construction battalion", so this appears to be an old Navy Seabees tractor. Right now it is multi-colored. In places there is some original red paint, but it is mostly covered by olive drab. On each side of the olive drab hood are the letters A B C D. The grill is gray and the fenders are yellow. The guy is selling it for $1500 and I saw that he had it listed in this morning's paper. It is located in Port Angeles, Washington. His phone # is 360-457-3120. Call after 5.
