A 656 gear drive diesel will when working at capacity burn 1.25 to 1.50 US gallons per hour, while the gasser will burn 4 to 5 US gal. per hour, doing the same work. Those post 1958 6 cylinder IH gassers don't hold a candle to the same tractor with diesel. Most of them don't even mearure up to a good working SM or 400 gas. To me a 6 cylinder IH gasser is worth little more than what you can see in it as a candidate for a diesel repower. That isn't all that bad either, if you consider the gas they used, most owners used them very little, thus the rest of the tractor may be in a lot better condition than most diesels.
