take of valve cover and see if the number is 8060 if it is it,s a hi compression head,then pull a spark plug and bring it to top dead center and take a stiff wire and go in the plug hole and see if it has domes,and about what size they are,it,s hard to get compresion up over 8 to 1 and at that figure you can run 87 octane all day.set timong at 1550 to 38 deegreze totla advance,and you should be fine. you will find many thing,s on your 1939 and part of 1940 some what diffrent the gas tank and braket,s, pto shaft , front hub,s some of the beering,d in the rear end. the very early ones have the serial no stamped in the frame rail all the way forward right side ,the seat is diffrent ,and the deck plate, you have a nice tractor,i have one now and had 2 other,s
