I understand your problem, as I have been on the other end of it. When I had dialup, I had a bad problem with spam. It got bad enough that I took advantage of a feature my ISP had. He allowed us a "white list and a black list". The black list was for those email addresses I wanted blocked, the white list was those people I knew who did not have to undergo any screening process. Eventually I had it set up so ONLY those addresses I had listed would come through. In that case, if I began corresponding with someone I wanted email from, such as yourself, I would immediately put your address on the white list. Otherwise the person would get a notice from his ISP just as you did asking to the person to verify himself -- this notice would only be sent once, after that you got on the white list until your address was removed. If the bidders ISP is similar to mine, he should have added your name to his white list immediately after he sent the email. I since have changed to a broadband provider and have had zero problems with spam, I have no one blocked. It is unfortunate that the internet/email has this problem, the notice you received is one way to deal with it. I haven't run into the telephone problem you have as yet. I am on the national no-call list and have not had a single telemarketing call in the last couple of years--that list does work. Doesn't apply to "charitable" organizations though. One "hired gun" works for several police/firefighter type organizations that may or may not be legitimate. I recognize his voice and just hang up.
