A Question On Propane Tractor Plumbing

Can anyone tell me why there are water lines plumbed into the ensign regulator on SMTA's as well as 400's & 450's?? Is it to keep the regulator from freezing up?? I fully understand Gas & Diesel theories, but this has got me curious. Will it run without water to the regulator?? Will it toss me off the seat like a rookie on a bull named FU MAN CHU?? Will it continue to leave me not knowing?? Please help me......Drew
