Those would be "vent holes". Don"t you dare fill them in or the
pressure buildup of all those unwanted gas fumes will cause
global warming, a rise in crime, and the black plague. Children
will scream, women will weep, and grown men will shake their
fists at the sky. Plus you could cause injury or serious death.
I"d have thought that you, a gas professional, would know that.
LOL!
Or maybe gas was "thicker" back then, and didn"t leak out of
those holes.
