Almost all IH tractors had positive ground, don't know about the 660 and other newer ones. It you want to switch it to negative ground you must switch the coil, battery, and ammeter.
If it has a generator it will have a regulator AND a cutout. All generators have to have cutouts to keep the battery from running down feeding the generator when it's shut off. Alternators have diodes for that function. I've never heard of a generator that had diodes but it's possible some did. Diodes only allow juice to pass one way.
