Heck I have seen tractor heads taken down so far you need 2 spark plug gaskets to keep the piston from hitting the plug ends. Yes, you might occasionally crack a head or two because they are so thin. Actually though I have never dissected a head to measure exactly how much thickness is available. If money is an issue then be cautious. I guess it is like cutting rotors, simply a judgement call.
