My 1966 cub Low-boy did the same thing. It started makeing a rumbling noise when it was in second gear. After a while it started doing it in all of the gears. I had a friend change the clutch and I have not had a problem with it since. except for the usuall oil leak out of the rear main. which I also had changed when it was split for the clutch. leaks just as bad now as it did before. But I will never part with it.
