Nat: Having said as you did, I quite agree, they will work just as well on 6 volt as 12. However there are 2 issues at hand here, number one is voltage and the second is charging source. After 45 years in this business it's my opinion alternators are far superior to generators. There are both 6 volt and 12 volt alternators on the market. I have a 6 volt alternator on my Farmall Super A. Been going for 12 years without a hitch. In fact on a cold day it will start quicker than my 12 volt 130 or 140. Batteries, both 6 and 12 volt last much longer with alternators as the charge is far better maintained.
