Joe, Assuming you have the proper switch for a distributor (2 pole), with age they tend to stick. The switching device inside is a spool which either makes contact in the "out" position allowing the tractor to run, or making contact in the "in" position, thus breaking the current flow to the distributor, which kills the engine. You may try removing the switch, and spraying some electrical contact spray down the shaft to cut the crud and whatever would prevent the switch from going in all the way. These switches are pretty basic and very seldom "go bad", they just get dirty enough or cruddy enough so as to impede proper contact.
