Mark, First thing I would do is to check out the condition of the spark at the low temperature. It should be strong and bluish white, not yellow, which indicates a weak spark. This could cause a flooding condition due to the unburned charges left in the cylinders. Check all connections in the starting circuit as well. Corrosion/rust don't conduct very well and can cause the starter to spin the engine slower, also contributing to hard starting. Then clean out the induction passages from the precleaner through the manifold. You may be surprised at what you find in there, especially if removing the air cleaner base fixes the flooding. Also check for vacuum leaks around the carb mounting flange and the manifold/head junction. Could also have a hole burned in the plate between the intake and exhaust manifolds. I think that about covers it, let us know what you find. Phil
