thanks for all your help, got the alt on, but now after looking at it, the guy who had this tractor has a 8 volt battery in it and pos grd, [auto connection claimed this was a one wire alt for hookups like tractors etc.] its a 6o amp delco with a self exciter in it. now i got to change bat, coil hookup, and use heavier wire, I understand the hookup from all your help. thinks maybe i should have had gen fixed, it was charging part time, has a new reg on it so the previous owner claims. oh well got a couple days off, not trucking south till storm over.
