Ain't quite as simple on an 856... You can't just pull the shift lever out of the top of the deck and weld up the little ball.

Whatever the problem is, it's internal, that's for sure. Probably an issue with the linkage inside the tranny.

Problem with working on these bigger tractors is the pieces are heavy and the tractor is quite complicated... Most barnyard mechanics aren't equipped to deal with it, and those that are already know what's wrong and how to fix it.
