I have a 4020 gas that I bought for similar reasons you have mentioned. It was much cheaper than a diesel (about $3,000) and it had less hours so was in much better mechanical condition. My 4020 uses right at 5 gal per hour when I am working it putting up hay. I pull a 16' windrower and a JD 535 round baler. I would suspect a 656 with less HP would use less gas. It will certainly start easier in the winter and many of the parts are less expensive than on a diesel. For low hour usage I think a gas burner can be a good idea if you find the right tractor.
