I hope you recognized the sub plot to your wife"s actions. It may have been her way of letting you know, in subtle terms, that the best way for her to impress upon you the importance of giving her some quality attention is to make herself as presentable as the tractors you hold so dear. I remember a few years back being asked the question by the lovely missus,"why cant you pay as much attention to me as you do your tractors"? I replied, "paint yourself 2150 red and we got a deal". Well, I"m still paying for that one.
