Take your old cable to a NAPA or other good auto parts store or to a truck service center and have new cables made from the heavy cable with the correct terminals. The terminal lugs should be soldered for the best contact. Not good to use an excess length cable. There are numerous places where OEM cables can be purchased already made up. The Brillman Co. is one at 1-888-274-5562. Pilot Knob Restorations also have them at 815-777-0826.
Another trick I use is to place an external star lock washer between the terminal and the contact surface. Those little star teeth bite into both surfaces for an improved contact. Hope this helps. Hal
