There are two, one to keep the grease in the transmission/rearend in it's place and one behind the brake assembly to keep the grease in the bull gear housing in it's place. The one behind the wheel hub is to keep dust out of the outer cage bearing. I'd remove the fill (over flow) plug on the side of the bull gear housing (not the drain plug on the bottom) and let the grease flow down a clean path into a clean container till it stops and put it back in the transmission. You will find that when you keep the bull gear housings from over filling, you will not have as much problem with grease leaking out the axel shaft seal, also, give the zerke fitting in the middle of the wheel (on the out side) a couple shots of gun grease from time to time, that is what lubricates the cage bearing. --Walt--

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
