FWIW, I took all the internals out of a late 560 and put them in a SMTA. I did that for the larger bearings and lower ratio first gear. I could have just the swapped the trans/axles but I wanted the casting numbers and dates of the SMTA to stay with the tractor. I can't remember if the axle bearings were tapered. I would guess not because I don't remember setting the new bearings for pre-load using shims.
