Farmall A no fire through coil

I recently acquired a farmall A that needed rewiring I however can't get fire through the coil. The original coil on the magneto has been by-passed with another. Pos wire to coil and neg to ground on magneto and coil has been tested and is working. Any idea what the problem could be and how to rebuild the original coil on magneto would be greatly appreciated.
