Don't know which mower you have, but on the tractor trailer mowers, the shaft is short. I have a parts book for some of the mowers and it shows that shaft is threaded on both ends. That would be the end with the belt pulley and the end with the fly wheel. I guess to hold things to unscrew the pulley and the flywheel, you would have to hold the pulley or the flywheel and try to get leverage on the other to unscrew it. Likely to be tight, as threads are made so mower working tightens things.
