Mitch: If your going to run 15W-40, use it the year around. Southern Ontario doesn't see very cold winters, thus it will work fine. I've been using it for close to 20 years in everything from tractors, trucks, cars and small engines. I've only lived in Southern Ontario for 4 years and these winters are a picnic temperature wise compared to Nova Scotia. Now wind and snow are another matter. Believe me, I have started vehicles in -40 weather, not often but -20F was quite common. I can take you to hundreds of forestry machines that start in these temperatures all winter with 15W-40, and no block heaters as they are parked miles from any electricity. Some are starting to use propane fired block heaters, not primarily as a starting assist but rather to save engine wear.
