Here is the update . It turns out the previous owner press fit a plug with a threaded end in the belt pulley attachment. It looked like a stud for the ground, but it wasn't. My connected ground to this wasn't good enough. Also there seems to be a short in the lighting system. I took the tractor down to only wiring the charging and ignition system. The system starts and charges fine. When I connect the lighting system wires get hot and it blows fuses ( someone put 30 amp fuses in this tractor) NOT GOOD. The wiring on this is a real bad job by the previous owner all homemade with lots of splices, not even close to original setup. ( I hate it when people dont have wire long enough so they use 2 ring terminals and a bolt then hide it under electrical tape and plastic conduit).Seen this more than once. I have a new harness but sending it in for paint first. Just wanted to make sure the system works . Thanks Jim for the insight into the problem. ED J
