Backus: I have owned 2 706d for a long time very good tractori would comare it to the M as far as popularity and ruggedness as far as the farmalls go they did put 2 different engines in these tractors a 310 and a 282 the easy way to determine the difference is most 310 had spin on filters for fuel and oil the 282 had glow plugs. as long as batteries are up and all glow plugs work it starts in the cold no problem as far as the cracked head i have heard this is a common problem although i have never had this problem the 282 is the same motor as far as the head is concerned as the 656 560 and several others the other main problem is the shift linkage it is fixable more time than money some bushings and a kit. I would buy the tractor I payed 2000.00 for one of mine and had the engine redone 3200.00 this was 10 yr ago. the other one i paid 4200 for ran for two yaers and had the engine redone. hope this helped
