Michael, I am with you. I do not understand why anyone would want to put two seals in place of one of the old leather seals. These new seals are used on everything today and have been for years and are not doubled up. I myself have used them for years and they last longer than the old leather seals. As some of the others said, all you will do with two seals is wear out the outer one because of no lubrication. Also, as others said, you can position the single seals on the best part of the staft for maximum sealing. Roger
