In the picture I see what appear to be screws holding on the top pivot where the fork on the lever is mounted. If this screw was removed, and the lever mooved as far as it can go toward the right in the photo, the lever might clear the shift rail and be able to be taken off the shaft. The sliding gear will need to be moved (down in the picture) to allow the shaft to pull out left. If the shaft will not clear the shaft, the tranny will need to come apart, because the new shaft will need to go in rfom that end. My best ideas, JimN Keep me in the loop.
