I have seen a C with 38", probably M or H rims, on it. It looked as if they had just set the rims on and used the standard H rim clamps to hold it . The C rim is a flat base rim with the tabs riveted to it, the M/H rim is a deep well rim, and the well reduces the size of the center opening to where it is a pretty good fit on the C center. I don't recall whether the drive lugs were still on the rims, or whether they had to be removed for clearance.
