I know what you mean. The needle in the carb on my H wouldn't shut off, peee'd gas everywhere, so we replaced then needle and seat, cleaned out the crud, and put new gaskets in. Then it wouldn't stay running. It quit on Dad, so he picked up a rock and smacked the carb. Ran good the rest of the day. Did the same thing again 2-3 more times. Last time I started 'er up she fired and ran for over an hour. Sometimes physical violence is the only thing they understand, you know?
