Yes you can replace the seal. However do not try to remove the bearing cage. You must first take the bull gear off the axle before you can remove the bearing cage. The seal runs on the brake drum, so when you remove the drum, there is a space between the pinion shaft and the seal. I used a puller with the jaws turned out to get the old seal out. It will come out in pieces, but with some help from pry bars, etc, it's not too difficult to get it out. Make sure you also get a new seal (gasket washer) that goes under the retainer washer for the brake drum. If you don't have that, oil will leak around the splines of the pinion shaft.
