I have a 1994 Ford extended cab that I bought new. One of the very first times I took my boys a long and got out with the motor running, one of them hit the lock button as he was crawling out the passenger door and like a good little fellow closed it behind him (first time for everything). We were all locked out. Fortunately, it was at home and I could go get the other set to get in. Since then I always carry a second key and have hidden one in the frame under the truck (just in case).
