We just drive over them with the lawnmower to chew them up and then let the wind do the rest. Whatever the wind doesn't take care of usually becomes fertilizer over the winter and spring, helping the lawn out for the next year. If it doesn't help the lawn, it at least doesn't hurt it, and saves me the trouble of raking for a week straight.
