Are you using the Advance on the fuel pump? On those 239 Diesels, if you pull the fuel shut-off lever out about half way it acts like a choke on a gaser. Also good tips below about needing heavy (I think one guage) battery cables-especially ground). I have a 664, even in summer mornings, let it turn over once or so & pull the advance & it fires. Forget the advance & it won't start quick.
