Not sure if the factory ever did anything with that hole. They may have had plans to fit the oil pressure gauge or water temp guage in the hole or knockout. It is certainly not for a tach. I have a new Cub tach and it fits on a bracket which I don't have. I think it is flat and made out of something like 11 guage steel. It should be illustrated in any parts manual that has the coil ignition listed. The tack is the same size as the other Stewart Warner tachs used in the larger tractors.
