There weren't much difference between the standard engine and the 5K and 8K altitude engines. I believe the differences were only in the pistons and maybe the cylinder head. With a less dense atmosphere as the altitude increases I believe they increased the compression ratio to maintain the horsepower at the higher altitudes. I'm not an expert on this item by any means but I believe if you have an 8K altitude engine and are at sea level you probably have additional horsepower over the standand M. Hope this helps. Hal
