Mike, my cub did exactly the same thing, and I rebuilt the carb and it solved the problem. Unfortunately, I originally thought it was a spark problem and replaced the plugs, cap, rotor, points and wires....all to no avail. Start with a good cleaningof the carb and then go from there, it may not need a complete rebuild...it is more likely dirt in the valve seat and probably not the float.
