The hand clutches will add significantly to resale value. I would strongly recommend you rebuild the tractor rather than salvage it out. If the major casting dates match it should be an excellent tractor to restore.

Why is it a "Parts" tractor?

The M&W clutch disconnects the left bull gear from it's spur gear, essentially lifting the left wheel off the ground. So while it is dis-engaged, the differential spins but the tractor wheels get no power. If the main clutch is engaged, you still have the M PTO engaged and belly pump, effectively giving you live PTO and hydraulics.

You can use it to slow the tractor while letting the PTO retain full power.

I've also used it to help a novice like a kid or a friend's wife learn to drive the tractor. You can stand on the drawbar and let them have total control of the tractor unless it get's exciting, then you can pull the handle back (disengage) to get the tractor off power in a hurry. (I don't recommend this, of course, in this day and age of no personal responsibility, I don't recommend anybody do anything except sit at home alone in the dark, there is too much chance of their stupidity getting them hurt and blaming me. But it is something I do.)

Naturally, with the main clutch engaged and the transmission and differential spinning at engine speed, you can't shift gears unless you use the main clutch.

I've never removed or installed one, but since you have to remove the shaft into the left spider gear it can not be like removing a generator or water pump so unless the tractor is really bad, consider restoring it, or selling it at a profit to someone who wnats it.
