The ballast resistor should be between the ignition switch and the coil. Go to page 3 on this forum & look for a Super A conversion to 12 volts posted by Mark Herbert. Then click on Bob M's response just under the original posting.
He has a wiring diagram displayed that shows how
a tractor being converted to 12 volts is wired.
The ballast resistor is shown in that diagram.
