IH operator's manuals of that era had excellent wiring diagrams. Get hold of the proper manual as 140 started prpoduction in 1958 as 6 volt generator, at some point in 60s it changed to 12 volt generator and before the end of production in 1979 it was 12 alternator. If its had a complete meltdown 12 volt alternator will be the least expensive fix. I would suggest going to Bob M's diagrams for 12 volt alternator. Under Research & Info at left of screen look under articles. His diagrams for any of the large letter series Farmalls will apply.
