when pulling the cam. This is so your reassembly
goes smoothly.

You should get that manual & read it thoroughly
as Riverbend suggested. You need to make sure you have the tractor well supported for safety too.

My manual says to remove hood, radiator, fan & crankshaft pulley. Drain the radiator and the oil pan. Remove the crankcase front cover, oil pan, oil pump & rocker arms. Remove tappet cover, tappet stop & lift tappets from their bore.
Note: You may be able to push these up in their bores enough to clear the cam shaft.

you need to remove the cap screws in the cam's thrust plate in order to pull the cam.

One thing to do before you pull the cam from the engine is to rotate the engine until your punch marks on the cam gear are aligned correctly with
the correct gears. Your single punch marks on the cam should aligned with the single mark on the
crankshaft gear. The double punch marks on the cam should line up with the double punch marks on the magneto gear. The idler gear & the governor
doesn't need to be timed to the engine. Once you do this do not move the engine. This makes it easier to get your engine back in time with the valves & ignition. Read that manual. Hal
