Sloroll: These are quite easy to fabricate, especially if you have flat top fenders. Of course the older tractors like 300, 560, etc with rear mounting made it quite simple. I had sections of tarpolin that would stretch from side of grill to back of fender, one for each side. I had them tapered about 2.5' at front to about 4' at rear. I tied them together on top in front of steering wheel.

Now that won't protect your face in the wind, but I guarentee if you have a flap at back so air from fan has to come up around your body you will be quite comfortable. One problem I had was at temps above 20F, I had to anchor tarp at clutch housing and roll tarps back a bit from front as it would get to hot in there. I had to let some of that fan air escape. I used these mainly in early spring and late fall tillage before the days of cabs. It was much easier on the older rear mount row crops. I had one on 656 for couple of years and just climbed up over 3 point hitch to mount and dismount.

Then this age thing, is also a factor for most of us now. We wouldn't enjoy the climbing anymore than we would the cold. My neighbor is always telling me, he'll come over with 150 hp 4x4 and heated cab. I tell him there is one difference between us, being 63 and semi retired I don't have to get out until weather turns nice after storm. I took his raincheck in case. One night I needed out and it was very miserable. His tractor was running by house, so I knew he was just having a coffee. I called him and said, " I need to be plowed out, now the 47 year old 130 is still willing, the problem is 63 year old flesh.

There is another little source of humor in the neighborhood, now red faced humor for the most part. When I moved here 4 years ago, most folks thought it was a joke, me thinking I was going to keep this 400' driveway open with my little Farmall. This dooryard was notorious for drifting snow. One week ago it was up to top of my car. The only way I can give in is plead the 63 year old flesh thing. Can't let the Farmall take the heat.

Today's Featured Article - Farmall 460: That's My Girl - by LeAnn R. Ralph. How many sounds can you think of that are as familiar to you as your own breathing? What about the hum of your refrigerator? Or the thump of your clothes dryer? Maybe the engine of your car? You hear those sounds every day, and you don't think much about them, do you. I can think of a few common, ordinary sounds in my daily life, too. ... [Read Article]
