A typical "split" is done at the bell housing, to separate the engine from the rest of the drivetrain. You'd split it here to replace the clutch, or overhaul the engine. You'd probably want to split it here even if you do split the tractor again behind the transmission (can you even do that on a regular Super M?). The smaller pieces will be easier to handle.

Really, where you split it depends on what you want to do.
