Don't know about 460 but one keyway axles started showing up on some 450 tractors,mostly one keyway on one side and two on other side.I agree with Hugh that it was done to increase strength.Also more cost savings by just machining one.On the subject I always wondered why some axles have a turned down section 3 to 5 inch wide inside the axle housing between the bearings and some don't. Also wonder when they started the 2 3/4 axle on 300 - 460. 56 model 300 is early as ive seen.
