Rex, I use Permatex #2 on both sides of the gasket. Check both surfaces to make sure they are clean and free of any old gasket material. The pan surface is easy, but the engine surface is harder to detect. Also, check the flange area of the pan and make sure it is flat and not distorted from overtightning. With cork gaskets, it is easy to overtighten and this will cause as many leaks as you are trying to prevent.
