Hey Jim, good point I missed it before. When a battery has been active, especially like charging or discharging, explosive hydrogen gas can be present above its cells which a spark can ignite fer sure. The practice of making the last "jumper" connection away from battery is indeed wise. Im probably guilty myself when giving advice on here concerning how to find shorts, I may have told people to remove n scratch the battery connections (especially in the dark) looking for a spark, but I realize thats not real good advice for a rookie.
