I would use a starter current tester on the tractor. They are cheap from auto parts stores. They are placed up against a main battery wire (no connection to, or disassembly of, tractor required). The meter detects the current flowing in the wire and gives a reading in hundreds of amps. I would guess that your tractor would draw about 350 450 amps when cranking. if the needle (on the tester) goes beyond 600 amps, I would suspect starter drag. Large diameter copper, short length cables are very important. Gassers should run 350-450 6v and 275-350 12v Good luck,JimN
