I can't help you with the clutch set-up, but I just went through the lift on my 354 that was hiccupping. It would drop the hitch to the ground in a minute if the tractor was off. I found an IH Blue Ribbon manual on Ebay for the 414 and 424 hydraulics and found them to be just like mine. Your 444 should be the same. Using the manual I resealed mine and now it is rock solid. It's not a bad job once you get started. The seal on my piston looked perfect on the outside, but had a chunk out of it on the side next to the piston groove.
