The 824 was introduced in Canada in 1970. This was a 67 PTO hp unit. They were cheaper than the 656 and much better starters. They were in series with the 6 and 7 24 series. They also were available with a bullit proof MFD. Many sold new yet have to be touched. Cannot say that for the newer series. They were meeting White's 1465/1470 competion head on. In eastern Canada White and before them Oliver/Cockshutt sold well in the under 75 HP. White outsold everything in the 65-75 MFD range. Even I had one (no IH 4X4 then). However, when IH brought the 824 4X4 onto the market, White sales slackened. The 1470 White was not a match for the big bad Red. In forage harvesting demos the 824 had more snot and was better balanced in the mud. The later ones had the 268 motor, before the introduction of the 844 and the Super 844. Yes, that was the last of the Super series. There is one in the county with original paint. With their distintive oval muffler that 4 cylinder had a distintive howl. Well made, tough old tractor. QR
