What scott did is fine and should work ok. The bore on mine was worn and like scott stated the shaft gets worn also. I reamed the bore in the housing and then made a new shaft out of stainless steel, made a new lever and brazed it to the new shaft. I used the old spring lever that was there allready. You need to replace the felt seal on the outside counterbore also. Hope this helps.
