M clutch replacement..

My brother is supposed to help a guy replace the clutch in an M. Somebody told him that they don't have to split the tractor to do this. Has anybody replaced the clutch in an M without splitting the tractor? The only M we had was way back in 1946, so I don't remember much about it. Thanks, guys.
